Are you feeling in need of refreshing??? Has winter been long? Have you felt cooped up in the house? Now that winter is over, it is time to spring into action and get refreshed!
I am in need of refreshing!!! How about you?
9 Ways to Refresh...
1. Beauty Sleep
Moms need beauty sleep, which is the hours of sleep before midnight. Beauty sleep sets the stage for the body to heal itself during sleep after midnight. Moms need about eight hours of sleep a night. The number of hours and the timing of that sleep are also important.
Be consistent in getting beauty sleep. Our bodies can usually adjust about one hour either way over a 24-hour period. So, staying up late just because it is the weekend can take days for your body to recover.
2. Enjoy the Season's Fresh Bounty
Spring through fall, there is a steady flow of fresh fruits and vegetables. These foods can provide the body with nutrients to repair the body.
Do you have picky eaters? Having the children help you grow, harvest, and prepare food, increases their likelihood of enjoying vegetables. Try different recipes. Sometimes, when one recipe does not work, another recipe will become a family standby.
3. Get enough pure water.
Most of us do not drink enough water. Our bodies need lots of water. Without enough water, the body is slowed in removing toxins. Pure water helps remove waste and toxins from the body, cools the body, and can help with weight loss.
How much should a person drink? It depends on size, weight, how active a person is, and how hot it is. We need at least 1/2 ounce of water for every pound of body weight. This includes water in foods. At first, as water is increased, so do bathroom visits. As the body adjusts and releases the water retained, this improves over time. High activity and high heat may increase water needs.
4. Get Outside
Do you have a nature deficit? Sunshine, fresh air, nature sounds, and green surroundings are healing to the body and the mind.
If you live above 37 degrees north, October through April, the sun's angle results in people not being able to make vitamin D3. Just 20 minutes of unfiltered sun between 10 AM and 2 PM, from April to October, is all you need. Build up your vitamin D3 stores naturally from sunlight. The half-life of D3 is one month. During the winter, your vitamin D3 levels drop. By February, your vitamin D3 levels could be low. Vitamin D3 is a vital part of our immune system. Vitamin D3 is anti-inflammatory. Having enough vitamin D3 can help protect the lungs, and body, from some of the worst effects of respiratory viruses.
5. Move your Body
God created the human body to move and act. Some people cannot move as they would like to due to an accident, disease, or birth. However, most of us can and should move. We live in a sedentary society. We sit too much! Let's get moving!
In the morning, before getting out of bed, it is great to stretch. Gently working through body stretching can be invigorating.
As the weather warms up, walking through the neighborhood, enjoying the greening, and flowering going on, is refreshing.
Building up walking to handle hiking is great.
When I am working hard, if I will stop and walk around the block, I am refreshed and can work better. This is good for the children, too! Walking can help them with studying.
6. Refreshing Bath
I do not know about you, but I am a shower person. Well, with one exception, a nice detox bath! Sitting in a dry sauna can cause you to sweat out toxins, but I find an Epson Salts detox bath more enjoyable!
Magnesium is used in hundreds of metabolic processes. In 1900, most Americans got enough magnesium through their diet. Today, the modern standard American diet has about 1/2 that. Some people take an Epson Salt bath and absorb magnesium through their skin. Epson Salts are not salt, it is magnesium sulfate. It is suggested that one should drink pure water before and after an Epsom Salt bath.
In 2016, I was sick with the flu. I found myself not able to eat much. A health coach suggested I take an Epson Salt bath and I took one. I added a teaspoon of ground ginger and a stick of cinnamon. The bath was refreshing and replenishing. I began to turn the corner and began to recover.
Other people add baking soda, vinegar, sea salt, and essential oils for their immune boosting, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties, as well as the nutrients it provides the skin and their other refreshing properties. If you add essential oils, be careful getting out, the tub can be slippery.
I have used baking soda, alone, when not sick, and it left me feeling amazingly refreshed!
Try a refreshing bath, you will be glad you did!
7. Sing
Learn some songs and hymns that lift your mood. I find that singing out loud, with all my heart, quickly lightens most frustrations, changes the entire mood, and can refresh me. One day, while driving, my daughter realized I was not in a good mood. She began to sing a song from my youth. She knew I would join her. When we were done, she smiled and said, "There, you feel better, don't you?" Whatever had got me in a funk was gone.
8. Humor
Laughing is good for you. Look for humor in situations. Write down the funny things that happen to you. Also, write down funny jokes and plays on words. Just laugh! At first, you may feel silly. Then you will laugh about laughing. Then, you just laugh. Laughing will lift your mood and refresh you.
9. Be Grateful
"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing.
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
I Thessalonians 5: 16-18
Studies have shown that being grateful relieves stress and refreshes us. Take time to look for the good, even in stressful or distressing circumstances. Then speak that gratitude. Pray that gratitude. God loves it when we are grateful! As you focus on gratitude, you will be refreshed and renewed.
Take time and measures to refresh, this week and every week! You and your family will be glad you did.
